Concerns 1.One concern I have about using technology with math edcuation is, students being too dependent on the technology. Students will have easy access to calculators and other tools. Instead of them using the techniques taught to find the answer to a math problem, they will be more likely to use a calculator or something similar. 2. Another concern I have is that many children may not use the technology for math, instead they may play games using their devices. For example, I know with some calculators, students are able to download games onto their calculator. Furthermore, while doing math on the computer, some students can easily navigate to another page and play games. 3. My last concern about using technology with math in the classroom is, that many students learn best with hands on experience and when using technology with math education, it takes away from the hands on aspect of learning and some students may perform worse than would if they had manipulatives in front of them to help them count. Suggestions 1. In order to ensure that students are not dependent on technology, teachers need to use websites that are for math learning and do not provide tools such as calculators. 2. Teachers need to be aware of what their students are doing on the computer. They can do this by walking around and constantly watching their students to ensure that students are using the computer for the proper reasons. 3. Teachers should not introduce technology to their students until the students have a full grasp of the lesson being taught. This will allow those students that work better with manipulatives to understand the lesson before using the computer or other device.
